“Another important project has already been started. It is the Toghanali-Kalbajar highway, it is also a highway passing through a very difficult landscape. As the height is 3,500 meters in some places, using this road in winter months is very difficult. That is why the construction of tunnels is considered, relevant instructions have been given, and the project is still being executed too,” said President Ilham Aliyev at the meeting on results of 2020, held in a video format on January 6, APA reports.
According to the President, at the same time, it was instructed to build a road from Horadiz to Zangilan, from there to Gubadli and from there to Lachin region, and preparations are underway: “I must add that the road from Toganali to Kalbajar will continue to Lachin region. Thus, we will create road and transport infrastructure from both the north and the south to Lachin and Kalbajar regions. At the same time, on my instructions, a site is being sought for the construction of a modern international airport in the Lachin or Kalbajar regions. It is true that the relief there is very difficult, and the vast majority of the territory is mountainous. It is difficult to find the right place there, but now research is underway, I hope I will be informed in the near future. Thus, a new international airport will be built in either Lachin or Kalbajar."
