The government of Iraq is negotiating with Azerbaijan over the fate of the remaining Azerbaijani children being kept in Iraq, Fadhil Awad Al Shuwaili, Iraq’s Charge D'affaires to Azerbaijan, told reporters in Baku on Tuesday.
The diplomat recalled that one of the Azerbaijani children was brought home and handed over to local authorities.
“The issue related to the remaining children is a security issue. The Iraqi government is working with Azerbaijan in this respect,” he added.
Two Azerbaijani children – two-year-old Khadija and three-year-old Abdulla wee found in Syrian territories retaken from ISIL. The children are believed to have been taken to ISIL-controlled territories by their parents who are reported dead. They were brought to Iraq by security forces after these territories were freed.
A while ago, Abdulla was brought to Azerbaijan and handed over to his grandfather. APA
