Azerbaijan says energy co-op with EU has reached level of strategic partnership

Cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union in the energy sphere has reached the level of strategic partnership, said Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov.

The deputy minister made the remarks at a conference “Involvement of the parliaments of Eastern Partnership countries in promoting gender quality and women’s health within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals” that kicked off in the Azerbaijani Parliament on Friday.

The Committee on Social Affairs, Education, Culture and Civil Society of the Euronest PA is one of the organizers of the conference.

Khalafov noted that Azerbaijan and the EU cooperate in many areas on the basis of common interests and mutual benefits.

According to him, the completion of intensive negotiations on cooperation will lead to the creation of anew political and legal framework that will serve the interests of both sides.

Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the EU, Khalafov said pointing out that the work being done within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor project and Azerbaijan’s role in Europe’s energy security demonstrates that cooperation in the energy sphere has reached a level of strategic partnership.
