In a statement released yesterday, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources reported dusty weather conditions in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula.
According to Yeniavaz.com, the ministry said that the concentration of dust in the air was 2.2 times higher than the permissible limit.
The ministry explained that the dust was transboundary in nature due to meteorological conditions and had entered the country with air currents from the southeast.
Interestingly, Israeli President Isaac Herzog was on an official visit to Azerbaijan on the same days that dusty weather was observed in Baku. A similar phenomenon was also recorded during previous visits by Israeli presidents.
It should be noted that President Isaac Herzog's previous visit to Azerbaijan took place on May 30–31, 2023. Dusty weather was also recorded in the capital during those days. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources on May 30, 2023, the concentration of dust particles in Baku was 1.6 times higher than the permissible limit. The ministry noted that the dust observed in the air was transboundary in nature and short-lived.
It is also worth mentioning that dusty weather was observed during the visit to Baku by former Israeli President Shimon Peres on June 28–29, 2009, before Herzog's presidency. On June 29, 2009, Azerbaijani media reported that dusty weather conditions had been recorded in Baku.
According to the available information, since Azerbaijan gained independence, Israeli presidents have made three official visits to the country: Shimon Peres on June 29, 2009; Isaac Herzog on May 30–31, 2023; and Isaac Herzog on October 14–15, 2026. Dusty weather was reportedly observed in Baku during all three visits.
Reports also indicate that the dust observed in Baku was caused by air currents carrying dust into the country from abroad.
