Green Card Registration to Resume in the United States

A court has ordered the US Department of State to begin registration for the Green Card lottery no later than October 18.

According to Yeniavaz.com, the ruling was issued by Federal Judge Jinsuk Ohta.

Under the ruling, registration for the 2027 fiscal year's immigrant visa program for people from various countries must begin by midnight on October 18 at the latest. The registration period must also be announced on the department's official website.

Registration must remain open for at least 30 days.

In December 2025, the White House decided to temporarily suspend the Green Card lottery program following a shooting at Brown University in Providence. The person responsible for the shooting had entered the United States through this visa program.

A Green Card is a document that grants non-US citizens the right to live permanently and work in the United States.
