Iran’s “Sahar Azeri” television channel linked footage from an event held in Türkiye’s Diyarbakır province to Azerbaijan, presenting it as a rally allegedly organized in the country in support of people wearing hijabs.
According to Yeniavaz.com, the Media and Broadcasting Council issued a statement on the matter.
The statement said that misrepresenting the location and nature of the incident amounted to a gross distortion of facts, an attempt to deliberately manipulate public opinion, and a clear example of disinformation intended to mislead the audience.
The statement read:
“The activities of this television channel are characterized by the dissemination of biased and false information directed against Azerbaijan, as well as attempts to mislead public opinion through provocative content. The channel’s systematic distortion of events related to our country, its regular publication of materials containing disinformation, and its approach aimed at creating a negative image of Azerbaijan demonstrate that such activities are among the main directions of its information policy.
It was precisely because of this consistent and biased conduct that the channel was placed on the blacklist.
The Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan calls on media organizations to ensure factual accuracy and objectivity in reporting, and to refrain from presentations that manipulate public opinion or distort the nature of events. The Council also urges the public to approach such posts critically, verify information through reliable sources, and avoid becoming a tool for the spread of disinformation.”
