“In recent days, it has become clearly evident that public activists, politicians and even officials operating in foreign countries are actively participating in targeted information campaigns against Azerbaijan.”
According to Yeniavaz.com, this was stated in a release issued by the Media and Broadcasting Council of Azerbaijan.
The statement noted that such activities, driven by political and ideological motives and aimed at manipulating public opinion and interfering in the country’s internal affairs, constitute unacceptable examples of the misuse of the information space and attempts to undermine public trust.
“The mass posting of content containing identical spelling errors and similar writing styles, the repeated copying and pasting of similar comments, and the editing and distribution of photo and video materials that have no connection whatsoever to our country are primitive and easily identifiable methods of coordinated troll attacks.
Although those posting the content use foreign languages, more than 400 posts featuring a single hashtag created in the Azerbaijani language were published within a short period. In many cases, the content consisted solely of the hashtag, while the same material was repeatedly circulated from a single account. This clearly demonstrates the manipulative nature of these campaigns and provokes justified public indignation towards their organizers and participants.
The use of various anonymous accounts to publish such content, as well as attempts to incite citizens to disrupt public order through negative comments and reactions, are entirely contrary to the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and international law, and entail legal liability.
We regard the intensification of targeted information attacks originating from Iran and Türkiye, particularly through the Telegram, X and TikTok platforms, as incompatible with the principles of protecting information security, mutual respect in interstate relations and international cooperation against disinformation, and we strongly condemn these actions.
The spread of unfounded and biased materials about Azerbaijan in the media and social media segments of those countries, the normalization of threats, intimidation and insults directed at the Azerbaijani state and people, and the failure of the relevant authorities to take any measures in this regard are causing concern and serious dissatisfaction among our public.
The Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan once again calls on citizens, media organizations and social media users to remain vigilant against such manipulative campaigns, refrain from participating in the dissemination of false information, and demonstrate a responsible and principled stance against attempts aimed at damaging the reputation of our country,” the statement said.
