45% of men in Azerbaijan died before reaching retirement age – Official

Last year, 59,834 people died in Azerbaijan.
Yeniavaz.com reports, citing published official data, that 37.4% of those who died, or 22,361 people, were under the age of 65, meaning they had not reached retirement age.
The number of men who died before reaching retirement age was higher. During the year, 45.2% of the men who died, or 14,782 people, died before reaching retirement age (65). The number of women who died before reaching retirement age was 7,579, accounting for 17.9% of all women who died.
For information, 16 years ago – in 2010 – in Azerbaijan, men who had reached the age of 62 and women who had reached the age of 57 became eligible for an old-age labor pension if they had at least 12 years of insurance record.
The retirement age for men was increased by six months every year from January 1, 2010, to January 1, 2012, while the retirement age for women was increased by six months every year from January 1, 2010, to January 1, 2016.
Subsequently, the retirement age for men was increased by six months every year from July 1, 2017, to July 1, 2021, while the retirement age for women was increased by six months every year from July 1, 2017, to July 1, 2026.
As a result, over the past 16 years, the retirement age for men has increased from 62 to 65, while the retirement age for women has increased from 57 to 65.
