Which countries trust the news the most? — The United States and Turkey rank low.

According to the Reuters Institute for Journalism Studies' 2026 Digital News Report, Kenya and Nigeria lead the global rankings for news trust.
Yeniavaz.com reports, that according to the study, 68% of respondents in both countries said they trust the news most of the time.
The survey was conducted among approximately 100,000 people in 48 countries in January-February 2026.
Finland recorded the highest rate in Europe, with 63% of respondents saying they trust the news. Denmark, Norway, and Sweden also ranked in the top ten.
The United States has one of the lowest rates among developed countries, with only 25% of American respondents saying they trust the news most of the time. This figure is on par with Taiwan and Colombia.
Türkiye also ranks low in the rankings. 28% of respondents in the country said they trust the news most of the time. Turkey ranked 38th out of 48 countries.
The study found that trust in news in the UK has declined the most among G7 countries over the past decade, falling from 50% in 2016 to 30% in 2026.
Experts attribute the global decline in trust in news to media polarization, the spread of disinformation, and problems with press freedom. At the same time, trust in state media and loyalty to news sources remain higher in some countries.
