Are cheap goods of poor quality? - Experts explain

The situation where the same product is sold at different prices in different stores is a common occurrence among shoppers.
As reported by Yeniavaz.com, products of the same brand and packaging are offered at higher prices in some stores and lower prices in others. This situation makes shoppers question the quality of goods sold at lower prices.
So, what is the reason for the same product being sold at lower prices, and is it related to quality?

Eyyub Huseynov

In a statement to Yeniavaz.com, Eyyub Huseynov, Chairman of the Union of Free Consumers, noted that there are several main reasons for price differences:
"In some cases, goods are sold at lower prices because they have less time left before their expiration date. The effect of heat or pressure on goods in the warehouse can also influence price differences".
Food expert Seymur Gafarov, in a statement to Yeniavaz.com, noted that selling products with the same ingredients at different prices is not a significant food safety issue:
"In a number of markets, products with the same ingredients are sold at different prices. From a food safety perspective, selling products with the same ingredients at different prices is not a significant issue. Because even if the quality of food products varies, this sales issue is not directly related to food safety. This does not mean that a product is of higher quality if it is expensive, or of lower quality if it is cheap".

Seymur Gafarov

According to him, product quality is primarily measured by the cost of acquiring the raw materials used:
"There may be products for which raw materials are imported from abroad. In this case, certain customs duties apply, and the addition of these duties increases the cost of the product. This can lead to a price difference between two identical products produced in our country".
The expert added that the low price of cheap goods is not due to their low quality:
"The low price is due to the conditions of raw material procurement. This includes packaging materials, local raw materials, proximity to the manufacturing plant, and the low cost of raw materials. For these and other reasons, the product price may be lower".
