Car sales in the European Union (EU) increased by 5.8% in October compared to the same period last year.

reports, that according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), the number of new passenger car registrations in the EU increased from 866,100 units in October last year to 916,600 units in the same month this year.
Sales in Spain increased by 15.9%, in Germany by 7.8%, in France by 2.9%, and in Italy by 0.5%. Beyond the EU, sales in the wider European market, including Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and the UK, also increased by 4.9% to 1.09 million units. In the UK, sales in October totaled 144,950 vehicles, an increase of 0.5%. Electric vehicle sales showed stronger momentum. In October, EV sales in the EU increased by 38.6% to 173,170 units. Between January and October, the share of EVs in total sales reached 16.4%, up from 13.2% last year.
Sales growth among automakers was mixed. Volkswagen Group's sales in the EU increased by 7.9%, Stellantis by 6.6%, and Renault by 10%. Deliveries of German premium vehicles BMW increased by 8.7%, and Mercedes-Benz by 2%. While Toyota Group sales grew by 10.8%, sales at the American manufacturer Ford fell by 8.8%. South Korean Hyundai Group increased sales by only 0.1%.
Among EV brands, Tesla experienced a significant decline in the EU in October, with its sales falling by 48% to 5,650 vehicles. Chinese manufacturer BYD, on the other hand, nearly tripled its sales to 13,350 units. Overall car sales in the European Union increased by 1.4% to 8.974 million units in January-October.
