Although the chicken population in Azerbaijan has decreased, egg production has increased


Despite the decline in the cattle and small animal population in Azerbaijan, an increase in livestock production has been recorded.
According to Yeniavaz.com, citing official data, the cattle population in Azerbaijan totaled 2,438,784 head in the first nine months of this year.
This figure represents a 2 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
Of the cattle population, 1,217,982 are cows and buffalo, a decrease of 1.4 percent compared to last year. The sheep and goat population totaled 6,763,682 head, a decrease of 3.5 percent compared to the same period last year. The pig population totaled 3,167 head, down 18.4 percent from the same period last year.
Regarding livestock production, live weight meat production during the reporting period amounted to 434,280 tons, up 1.2% year-on-year. Milk production totaled 1,699,108 tons (up 0.3%), and egg production reached 1,789,436,000 eggs, up 1.9%. Wool production totaled 14,600 tons, down 1.3%.
Poultry production in agricultural enterprises also increased. From January to September of this year, the total poultry population amounted to 10,721,472 head, up 0.8% year-on-year. The poultry industry sold 56,361 tons of live weight poultry for slaughter.
These farms produced 880,274,000 eggs, a 3.3% increase. On average, each laying hen produced 180 eggs (an increase of 2.3%). Overall, compared to the same period last year, the poultry flock at poultry farms for the first nine months of this year amounted to 10,541,852 birds, of which 4,643,608 were laying hens. Over the past year, the laying hens' flock decreased by 2.4%.
