Actions against pension reforms carried out by the French authorities do not stop. Millions of people are protesting against raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.
Yeniavaz.com reports that the French Senate has passed a bill to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 years. This means that the difference between life expectancy (82 years) and retirement age (64 years) in France is 18 years. This is the expected payout period. That is, French citizens have the opportunity to receive a pension for an average of 18 years.
For comparison, let's say that the expected period of payment of pensions in Azerbaijan is currently 9 years.
As is known, in 2017 Azerbaijan introduced amendments to Article 7 of the Law on Labor Pensions. In accordance with this change, the age limit for men is increased by 6 months annually from July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2021, and the age limit for women is increased from July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2027. This means that men in Azerbaijan can retire at 65 and women at 63. Average life expectancy in Azerbaijan is 73 years.
As can be seen from the figures, the expected period for the payment of pensions in France is 9 years longer than in Azerbaijan.
It should also be noted that, compared with countries in the region, the expected period for the payment of pensions in Azerbaijan is short.
In the following table, we present the expected period of payment of pensions in the countries of the region, referring to the data of The Population Reference Bureau (PRB), one of the world's leading organizations, and the well-known portal "tradingeconomics.com":
For information, we also inform you that the average life expectancy in Azerbaijan has increased, which is one of the main reasons for raising the retirement age through amendments to the Law on Labor Pensions. Official data released in 2017 showed that the average life expectancy in Azerbaijan is 73.1 years for men and 77.8 years for women. Given that the retirement age was 64 for men and 61 for women, the average expected retirement age was 9.1 years for men and 16.8 years for women, for an average of 13 years.
However, after 2017, the average life expectancy for both men and women in Azerbaijan has decreased. The latest statistics released by the State Statistics Committee for 2021 show that life expectancy has fallen to 71.3 years for men and 75.9 years for women. As we have already mentioned, the retirement age has increased to 65 for men and 63 for women. As a result, the average period of expected pension payment in Azerbaijan was 9.5 years, 6 years for men and 13 years for women. As can be seen from the published official data, compared to 2017, the average period for paying pensions in Azerbaijan has decreased by 3.5 years.
