
Last year, 112,284 children were born in Azerbaijan.
Yeniavaz.com citing to published official statistics reports, that 8.4% or 9,476 children were born by mothers under 20 years old. 1650 newborns were born by mothers aged 16-17. Of these, 341 were born by 16-year-old mothers, and 84 were born by mothers younger than 16.
According to the requirements of the "Family Code", the age of marriage in the Republic of Azerbaijan is set as 18 years. In some exceptional cases, marriage at the age of 17 is allowed (Article 10). This also means that 425 children were born from informal marriages last year.
In Azerbaijan, 15-17 years are also considered school age, which means that 1,650 babies were born by girls of school age.
It should also be noted that in recent years the number of children born by mothers of school age has decreased.
