Lavrov says Turkey not seeking to create Great Turan

Turkey does not seek to create the Great Turan as a supranational entity, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with RBC television channel on Friday.

"If we talk about the Great Turan as a supranational entity in the historical sense, I do not think Turkey seeks this goal. I cannot see how the countries, which used to be part of the Soviet Union and then became independent, can support any form of this idea in real life. On the contrary, the entire pathos of their foreign policies and the practice of their activities are to strengthen their national states," he said.

Lavrov pointed out that the theme of Turk-speaking relations had penetrated deep enough in Turkey’s cooperation with the countries concerned, including Azerbaijan and certain nations in Central Asia.

The Russian Foreign Minister remained of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, where Russia holds an observer status. (TASS)
