Prime Minister: Georgia does not plan to reopen land borders

Georgia cannot take hasty steps to open its borders, said Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.

He said that the country only provides the evacuation of stranded Georgian citizens and goods transportation by land route, Report’s local bureau informs.

According to Gakharia, the country carries out effective control across its borders.

“We do not plan to open land borders yet,” he added.

Earlier, Tbilisi postponed the resumption of regular international flights by July 31. It had fruitful talks with partner countries, Israel, and various European Union members to recommence tourism. However, those countries have canceled the reopening of borders to tourists due to the epidemiological situation.

So far, the country has detected a total of 943 cases and 15 related deaths.
