Fire becomes 2nd largest in California’s history

The Dixie Fire, which has been burning for three weeks in California, is now considered the second-largest fire in the US state's history, according to officials Sunday.

“The #DixieFire is now the 2nd largest fire in California’s history,” the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) said on Twitter.

“As firefighters continue their fight against 11 major wildfires/complexes across the state, please take the time to ensure you and your family are #EvacuationReady by visiting http://ReadyForWildfire.org,” it added.

On Thursday evening, the Dixie Fire, aided by dry vegetation and strong wind gusts, spread to the historic town of Greenville.

Historic buildings, homes, businesses and schools were “completely lost,” according to Plumas County Supervisor Kevin Goss.

The fire has so far burned more than 463,000 acres and is 21% contained, CalFire said on its website. (APA)
